A series of acting classes taught by Randy Carr at the Western Institute for Lifelong Learning (WILL) sparked the idea of forming a community theater in Silver City. Led by Phyllis McQuaide and her husband Jim — both seasoned community theater actors before moving to Silver City — several class members joined forces to create the Silver City Community Theater. Phyllis was elected President and Jim a Vice President of the original SCCT Board of Directors. The McQuaides have since moved from Silver City for health reasons, but their positive influence remains with us. We also owe a debt of gratitude to Randy Carr and his wife Kathy Anderson for helping us “get the show on the road.”
In December 2014 the newly minted SCCT kicked off it's inaugural season with an original one-act comedy “A Twilight Christmas” written by Randy Carr, Jim Kelly, and Sharyn McDonald. The crowds braved the winter weather and filled the seats at Western New Mexico University’s Light Hall Theater. SCCT was on it’s way.
Now a thriving community theater company with ever more productions under our belt, SCCT continues on our mission:
To enrich, educate and entertain the Silver City and Grant County communities by providing a broad range of live theater experiences on a recurring, seasonal basis.
SCCT is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
